We invite new singers to join our choir for September 2026 and January 2027. Our members come from all parts of our community and while they bring a wide variety of interests and experiences, they all have one thing in common - they LOVE to sing!

FAQs
Who are your singers?
Our singing community ranges in age from 19 to 90. Every term new members join us and we have people who have sung with us for decades. We are a mixed-voice choir of sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses working together towards a common purpose through our shared love of singing.
What kinds of music do you sing?
Most of our repertoire is drawn from the great choral masterworks. We are regular guests of the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra in works such as Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, and Mozart’s Grand Mass in C Minor. We also present our own concerts of larger works with orchestra, including Faure’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Dan Forrest’s LUX, and Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass. We love to collaborate with other musicians and explore new genres. Recent collaborations have included “Celtic Kitchen Party” with Wander West, Broadway favourites with Lethbridge Little Opera Theatre, and Gilbert & Sullivan productions with University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop. This fall we will collaborate with Cree-Dene composer Sherryl Sewepagaham and then join the Lethbridge Symphony for a concert of “Choral Christmas Magic”.
Where and when are your rehearsals and concerts?
Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 7:00 - 9:30 pm at Southminster United Church, 1011 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB. (Please use the 11th Street accessible door when you arrive.)
This season’s concerts take place at Southminster United Church and are on the following dates:
Saturday, October 24 at 2:30 p.m. “Ohkoyi’kso’koyi | Between Friends: A Choral Celebration”, Sherryl Sewepagaham, guest composer and conductor
Sunday, December Sunday Dec. 13 at 3:00 pm and Monday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. with Lethbridge Symphony “Christmas Choral Magic”, Glenn Klassen, conductor
Saturday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. Mozart “Requiem” with the Vox Musica orchestra, Joanne Collier, conductor
What are the expectations of the singers?
Attend weekly rehearsals and come prepared with your music folder, a pencil, and water bottle. Arrive in time to be seated and settled at least five minutes before the start of rehearsal. When you arrive every week, check in at the desk for attendance.
Due to the level of our repertoire and rehearsal process, your attendance at all rehearsals, dress rehearsals, workshops and concerts is the key to Vox Musica producing high quality concerts where singers feel prepared and confident. The dates are publicized well in advance.
Please notify us if you will be absent. We understand that there will be situations surrounding work, travel and health that will conflict from time to time. Please speak with the conductor or assistant conductor as far in advance as possible to work these out.
Is there an audition?
No.
What if I don’t read music that well?
That’s okay. Some of our members are experienced musicians and some don’t read music at all. Most fall somewhere in between. Our learning process is scaffolded and rehearsals include time for sectional rehearsals to assist with learning the music. As well, at-home practice tools such as part recordings and language recordings are provided to members as much as possible.
Do I have to work on the music between rehearsals?
The most important thing is coming to rehearsals every week ready to sing. Because we sing challenging music you may want to review at home, and there are times when the conductor may ask you to look at a specific part before the next rehearsal.
Do I have to memorize the pieces?
Usually not. You will have your music folder with you for most concerts so you don’t have to worry about memorization. Occasionally the choir may be asked to sing a section by memory and you will find that you do better than you think!
What is the dress code?
Our concert dress is is full black, including shoes and socks/hosiery and can include:
- simple ankle length black dresses or long skirt/blouse or dress pant/blouse combination, with conservative necklines (for uniformity) and sleeves that are elbow length or longer.
- black plants and black shirts with a black tie.
- Clothing should be simple but dressy – no jeans, leggings, sweat pants, t-shirts etc. No large jewelry, please, and no skin visible below the waist (yes, it shows, as we are in full view of some audience members as we process onto the stage).
For rehearsals, wear what is comfortable for you to sit, stand and breathe. Please avoid wearing any scented body products/perfumes/aftershaves etc. to rehearsals and concerts. These scents may prevent some members of the choir from singing because of allergies.
What is the cost of being a member?
The registration fee is $160 per term (Fall: Sept-Dec and Spring: Jan-May). This includes the Annual Society Membership Fee of $10.
Fees are due by September 30, 2026 and can be paid at rehearsals by cheque, payable to Vox Musica Choral Society, or by e-transfer to voxpaylethbridge@gmail.com.
We encourage youth to join us and offer a special young adult membership rate to those under 25. These are $50.00 with a completed Student/Young Adult Application form.
OK - I’m interested in joining. What is the process?
It’s as easy as showing up at our first rehearsal and registration evening on Tuesday, September 8. You can print and complete the registration form below and bring it with you but there will also be forms available that evening. We do not have an online registration process at this time.

Health safety for the choir
Vox Musica is a mask-friendly organization. Masks are not mandatory at rehearsals. We ask that all singers respect the decisions made by each member of the choir.
We also ask that if you feel unwell, or if someone in your household tests positive for Covid, you do not attend choir rehearsal.
